Kaunaoa Beach/ Mauna Kea

Commonly known as Mauna Kea Beach, is an intoxicating slice of paradise that leaves people speechless as they explore this tropical oasis situated below the Kohala Mountain range.

Mauna Kea Beach is a little less crowded due to the limited public parking, which is great if you are able to snag a parking pass from the gate guard.

Kua Bay

Kua is one of the best beaches close to Kailua-Kona. Kua has beautiful white sandy shores in the Summer, but gets a little rocky in the Winter due to large north swells. It is beloved by bodysurfer, bodyboards, and those looking for a spectacular day by the ocean.

It is also an amazing place to see whales in the Winter! For more information about this exquisite beach visit Kua Bay

Mahai`ula

Mahai`ula is gorgeous and is the perfect beach if you want to relax on a big beach with fewer beachgoers.

The swimming at Mahai`ula is a little less desirable, due to rocky entry into the ocean and murky water. However, it is the perfect place for a dip if you want to cool off after relaxing in the sun.

Carlsmith Beach Park

Carlsmith is known by locals as Four Mile because it is located about 4 miles from downtown Hilo; it has the most breath-taking turquoise mermaid pools, making this an ideal spot for snorkeling and seeing sea turtles!

This is a great family-friendly spot, with calm water due to the breakwater. Relax and enjoy Carlsmith, while taking in the raw beauty of Hilo. Carlsmith Beach Park
