Two Step

Located next to Puʻuhonua o Hōnaunau National Park, this beautiful coastal tropical bay is one of the best snorkeling sites on Hawai`i Island. Its crystal waters are home to a wide variety of native marine wildlife and beautiful healthy coral. Popularly known as “two-step”, it is creatively named after the two natural steps carved into the coastal lava rock that leads into the water. Take a swim with spinner dolphins, eels and large Hawaiian honu (turtles) that call this beautiful area home. Once part of the royal village, this historical landing site is still frequently used by fishermen, swimmers and canoe paddlers. It is a great place for experienced snorkels and swimmers to immerse themselves in this wild aquatic world. We recommend that you bring your swimming gear, reef shoes, floating device, water, beach chairs and a large sun hat. Please be mindful when entering and exiting the water, as this is the only place of entry to and from the ocean. Also help preserve this beautiful echo system by not stepping on the living coral reef. The reef and rocks also have wana (sea urchins) which are poisonous and are commonly found throughout the state. For directions to this beautiful location, please visit: Directions to Two Step
